On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, a brief ceremony was held to commission the refurbished Model Pharmacy at the University of Ghana School of Pharmacy.
During the ceremony, the Dean, Prof. Isaac Julius Asiedu-Gyekye, expressed great delight at the development and extended immense appreciation to the sponsors, Pharmatrust, for their benevolence. He was optimistic that the Model Pharmacy would help sharpen the skills of the students, as it is set to provide hands-on training in pharmacy practice.
The Model Pharmacy is one of the laboratories in the Department of Pharmacy Practice & Clinical Pharmacy, meant for practical courses in pharmacotherapy and community pharmacy. “Here, our students get to connect their theoretical knowledge with actual practice and gain hands-on experience in their preparation to become skilled pharmacists who will contribute meaningfully to the health sector”, the Head of Department, Dr. Thelma Ohene-Agyei noted.

The Sponsors, Dr. & Mrs. Adjepong, flanked by the Dean some School Officials.
The model pharmacy, located in the SOP new building (which was set up in 2020), needed refurbishment to meet the standards of a training lab. Pharmatrust Limited, a fully Ghanaian-owned pharmaceutical company, responded to a sponsorship request and refurbished the facility with shelves and sample medicines for training.
This partnership has ensured that the model pharmacy is fit for use and represents a key strategic priority of the University - Community engagement and meaningful partnerships.
In a short address, Dr. Anthony Adjepong, CEO of Pharmatrust, sponsor of the refurbished facility, expressed great pleasure to have partnered with the School in this worthy cause. He stressed the benefits of the model pharmacy as it aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry. As an Alumnus of the UG School of Pharmacy, Dr. Adjepong expressed his delight in giving back to his School and commended both staff and faculty for the remarkable achievement.
He called for further collaborations between academia and industry to sharpen the skills of the students and promote research for mutual benefits.
