The University of Ghana School of Pharmacy (UGSOP) joined a high-level delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, on Monday, 19th January 2026. Facilitated by Dean Prof. Irene M. A. Kretchy, the visit brought together the School’s Heads of Department and Administrator alongside the leadership of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH), led by its President, Dr. Paul Owusu Donkor who is a UGSOP faculty member and the first University of Ghana academic to be elected PSGH President, and notably the youngest in the Society’s history.

The engagement created a meaningful platform for the School to deepen its relationship with University leadership at the highest level. Dean Kretchy formally introduced the PSGH President to the Vice-Chancellor, a moment carrying particular institutional weight: Dr. Donkor’s election places a UGSOP faculty member at the helm of the national professional body. Prof. Amfo congratulated Dr. Donkor and affirmed the University’s readiness to collaborate with PSGH, including through hosting the Society’s 2026 Annual General Meeting and 90th Anniversary celebrations on the UG campus, an occasion in which the School expects to play a central role.

The UGSOP delegation also formally brought to the Vice-Chancellor’s attention the School’s upcoming 20th Anniversary, with a planning committee already constituted to organise the commemorative activities. The visit reinforces UGSOP’s growing role as a strategic bridge between the University and the wider pharmacy profession, and its sustained commitment to institutional partnerships that advance pharmaceutical education, research, and public health outcomes across Ghana.
