University of Ghana School of Pharmacy, Climax 10th Anniversary by Honoring Founding Fathers.

The School of Pharmacy on the 2nd of March 2018, climaxed its 10th anniversary at a colourful ceremony with the then Acting President/Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the special guest of honour. The event took place at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel.  A morning session dubbed the business forum was graced by the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, the President of Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana and the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Rev. Prof. Patrick Ayeh-Kumi. A panel discussion on “Bridging the Gap between Academia and Industry” saw the academia represented by the Dean, Central University College, Prof. Adomako Ohemeng and the Acting Dean of School of Pharmacy, Pharm. Dr. Isaac Asiedu-Gyekye and Partners for Industry delivering on strategies to achieve this concept.

The Awards/ Dinner Night dubbed “Ghana Pharma Awards” was graced by the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the special guest of honor.

Other dignitaries present were the Minister for Health, Hon.  Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Lyeo Woon-Ki and the Indian High Commissioner, H.E. Birender Singh Yadav. Also in attendance was the President of the Pharmacy Society of Ghana, Pharm. Ben Botwe as well as the CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Pharmacy, Pharm. Tony Ameka.

The occasion was also graced with the presence of other Directors and Deans of the College of Health Sciences. This included the Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute, Prof. Kwabena M. Bosompem and the Acting Dean of  the School of Nursing, Dr. Lydia Aziator as well as the Dean of the School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Solomon Ofori-Acquah.

The Acting Dean, Dr. Asiedu-Gyekye, in his speech thanked all the stakeholders for their role in ensuring the success of the school and the high caliber of professionals being produced since its inception.

The Provost, College of Health Sciences in presenting the awards announced the take-off of the Doctor of Pharmacy Program in August 2018.  Nine (9) distinguished individuals at the inception of the school were recognized for their various contributions from the inception of the School. These included the founding dean, Prof. A.C. Sackeyfio, the immediate past dean, Prof. Alexander Nyarko, the first School administrator, Madam Bernice Tamakloe, the first driver of the School, Mr. Acquah, the first Lecturer, Dr. Ofosua Adi-Dako and the Founding Provost, Prof. A.S. Aryettey.

The Vice President in his speech encouraged the stakeholders in Pharmacy Practice to take interest and extend their services to remote areas of the country and the villages.
