Biography
Irene Kretchy is a Professor of Social and Behavioural Pharmacy (Pharmacy Practice) at the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy, University of Ghana, and a Fellow of the Ghana College of Pharmacists. Prof. Kretchy has a Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree, a Master of Philosophy in Psychology and a Doctorate Degree in Social Pharmacy. She handles Social & Behavioural Pharmacy and Mental Health courses in the School of Pharmacy and the Department of Psychology. She has served as Head of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy, Vice Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, and currently as Dean of the School of Pharmacy.
Research area
Social and behavioural aspects of health with specific research interests in psychosocial approaches to medication use and other treatments for infectious (HIV, malaria) and non-communicable diseases (hypertension, diabetes and mental illness), as well as medication utilisation based on gender dynamics and women’s health. Her research activities have also focused on factors in response to healthcare utilisation, understanding and optimising health-related behaviours and the perceptions and experiences of patients, caregivers and policymakers.
