The Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Dr. Isaac Asiedu-Gyekye has hosted a delegation from Kumamoto University, Japan. The delegation was made up of the Dean of Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Kumamoto University, Professor Hirofumi Kai, as well as Prof. Akinori Hisatsune, the Principal Investigator of the proposal under discussion, and Keima Ueno, CEO of Chemical Dojin Co. Ltd.  Dr. Asiedu- Gyeke and Professor Alexander Kwadwo Nyarko, the immediate past Dean of the School of Pharmacy and the various Heads of Departments of the School of Pharmacy and other faculty of the School welcomed the delegation.

Professor Kai commended the delegation for the bold step taken to further discuss the proposed MOU between the two institutions and stressed on working together in the area of disease – driven drug discovery. In his presentation stated that Kumamoto University was established in the year 1700 and has a student population of over 25,000. He was hopeful that School of Pharmacy faculty would come together to strengthen the relationship between the two institutions. He further stressed on the need to identify research projects that are geared towards meeting the health needs of a nation and promised to collaborate in this regard.

Professor Kai and his team expressed their gratitude for the warm reception accorded them on their arrival and indicated that the preparedness of the School towards cutting edge research and postgraduate training was impressive. The two Schools took the opportunity to familiarize themselves and outlined a road map to disease-driven collaborative research. Both Institutions have embarked on a six-year PharmD program.
